Success and problems in development of medical radioisotope production in Russia

Institute for Nuclear Research, Russian Academy of Sciences, prosp. 60-letiya Oktyabrya 7a, Moscow, 117312, Russian Federation

Production and application of radionuclides for medical diagnostics and therapy in Russia are facing with important difficulties. An experience of Institute for Nuclear Research of RAS in development of new production methods of 82Sr, 82Rb-generator, 117mSn, 225Ac has demonstrated that a good progress may be achieved in case if: a support of unique basic nuclear facilities will be provided, scientific and medical community will determine direction of developments, and an effective international collaboration will be organized.
