Ya I Frenkel’s studies of the theory of the electric conductivity of metals

,
Ioffe Institute, ul. Polytekhnicheskaya 26, St. Petersburg, 194021, Russian Federation

The bulk of this contribution is a paper by Ya I Frenkel’ on the theory of the electric conductivity of metals, written in 1928 and published in the same year in Uspekhi Fizicheskikh Nauk. Much of this paper is based on the original results of Frenkel’ himself obtained in the years 1924-1927. An introductory section provides a brief review of Frenkel’s main investigation in the fields of quantum mechanics and the kinetic theory of the condensed state, applied to specific problems in physics. Frenkel’s paper is accompanied by necessary comments relating mainly to the current state of the art of the subject.
