Total absorption Cherenkov spectrometers

Lebedev Physical Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences, Leninsky prosp. 53, Moscow, 119991, Russian Federation

A short review of works done with Cherenkov detectors in laboratories of Lebedev Physical Institute for 50 years is presented. The report consider some issues concerning the use of the total absorption Cherenkov counters on the basis lead glass and heavy crystals in experiments at accelerators.
