For the first time in Russia, the Institute of Spectroscopy of the Russian Academy of Sciences created an atom chip — a device for cooling, trapping and controlling of neutral atoms. Atom chips are a platform for creating quantum sensors based on ultracold atoms. It is the atom chip technology that underlies the experiments with atoms in a state of Bose-Einstein condensation, which are currently being carried out on the board of International Space Station. The development of this direction will make it possible to create atomic clocks, gravimeters and inertial sensors, which can be used to solve both fundamental and applied problems.
