On the linear theory of waves in media with periodic structures

The dispersion properties of the elastic vibrations of a one-dimensional periodically-inhomogeneous chain are examined. It is shown that in both the acoustic and optical passbands both normal and anomalous dispersion branches are always generated in pairs. The amplitudes of the waves corresponding to these branches are mutually linked. Results are presented of experimental simulation in electric transmission lines with periodically varying parameters.
