Charmed and beautiful particles

The present status of the theory of charmed and beautiful hadrons is briefly reviewed. The opportunities presented by these particles for the elucidation of fundamental questions, such as the number of generations of quarks and leptons and the mechanisms responsible for CP violation, are examined. Particular attention is devoted, within the framework of quantum chromodynamics, to the structure of hadrons with heavy quarks.
