Gas turbine engines are widely used in the electric power industry and aircraft industry. Thermal barrier coatings are used to reduce the extreme loads of high temperatures on the elements of the combustion chamber. The most important challenge is to further increase the operating temperature of gas turbine engines to increase their efficiency. Traditionally, zirconium dioxide stabilized with yttrium oxide (YZS) is used in industry due to its combination of properties. However, the presence of a phase transition at operating temperatures makes it impossible to further increase the operating temperatures of gas turbine engines. This review is devoted to the consideration of basic materials and high-entropy oxides based on them as alternatives to YSZ.
