In 2024 we celebrate the 90-th anniversary of the Physical institute of the USSR/Russian academy of sciences (LPI). One of the most important domains of scientific research at the LPI was that in theoretical physics carried over, in different directions, at the Theoretical physics department. In the present review the ideas in the physics of strong interactions developed at the Sector/Laboratory of high energy physics at Theoretical physics department are discussed.
