An overview of the recently appeared modalities of Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) — OCT-based
angiography (OCA) and OCT-based elastography (OCE) is given. These biomedical diagnostic modalities are
functional extensions of OCT. In 2021 this visualization technology based on principles of low-coherence
interferometry celebrated its 30-year anniversary. The paper discusses main principles of OCA and OCE, the
development of which to a significant degree was stimulated by the earlier proposed similar modalities of medical
ultrasound. A number of examples are given to illustrate previously unavailable diagnostic possibilities opened by
these new OCT modalities for biomedical applications. The paper is an extended version of the report presented in
December 2021 at the scientific session of the Division of Physical Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences in
December 2021.
