Radioisotope research and development at the Linear Accelerator of the Institute for Nuclear Research of RASInstitute for Nuclear Research, Russian Academy of Sciences, prosp. 60-letiya Oktyabrya 7a, Moscow, 117312, Russian Federation Radioisotope investigations at the linear accelerator of INR RAS have been developing since year 1989. A facility for target irradiation and radioisotope production was constructed in 1992. It is installed at deflected 160-MeV beam with intensity above 120 μA, and its parameters were the most powerful at that time. Both fundamental and applied research are carried out at the facility. The main direction is investigation of the processes of generation and recovery of medical radioisotopes, as well as development technology for their production. The most attractive produced radionuclides now are strontium-82 and actinium-225. Russian 82Sr/82Rb generator for PET-diagnostics has been developed by INR RAS and being introduced in medicine. New types of 225Ас/213Bi generators are also developing for therapy of oncology diseases. In addition, investigation of process for production and chemical recovery of medical radionuclides 117mSn, 68Ge, 72Se, 64,67Cu, 223Ra, 230Pa, and 230U are performed, as well for some generators with these isotopes. The technology developed at INR is used in Russia and abroad. Physical processes of proton interaction with different nuclei are also investigated in the laboratory of radioisotope complex of INR RAS. Produced 22Na, 83Rb, 109Cd and radioactive sources with these radionuclides are used in physical research and technology.
