Belousov—Zhabotinsky reaction dynamics research by time-resolving X-ray absorption spectroscopy using adaptive X-ray optics elements

The time-resolved X-ray absorption spectroscopy method was developed and implemented using adaptive bending X-ray optics (ABXO). It was applied to the in-situ study of the Belousov—Zhabotinsky self-oscillating chemical reaction. During the reaction bromine (Br) transfer between various compounds, and its absorption spectra was tracked. The bromine K-edge was serially recorded in the spectral range of 275 eV with a spectral resolution over 1.4 eV, a acquisition time was 1 s per spectrum, and a repetition rate was 0.71 Hz. The resulting spectra series make it possible to trace the Belousov—Zhabotinsky reaction kinetics and the kinetics of related chemical self-oscillations in particular.
