Polarization echo-spectroscopy in a gas at the transition 0—1

Theoretical and experimental studies of the photon and stimulated photon echo generated at the transition 0—1 of 174Yb atoms are reviewed. Analogues of the phenomena induced by collisions of 174Yb atoms with buffer gas atoms are also considered. The nature of collisions is analyzed.
