The latest results on the study of collective plasma excitations in two-dimensional electron systems based on AlGaAs/GaAs, AlGaAs/AlAs, and MgZnO/ZnO nanostructures and graphene are considered. Special attention is paid to the interaction of two-dimensional plasma with light. The results of experimental work on the discovery of a new family of plasma oscillations are presented. Possible avenues for the further development of experiment and theory are discussed.
