A possible and feasible alternative to the current energy-saving light sources are environmentally friendly new-generation cathodoluminescent light sources (CLS) based on luminescence produced by electrons emitted from the field emission cathode. Because of the lack of available optimally designed general-purpose cathode field-emission lamps, the development of an efficient prototype CLS of potentially low mass production cost is currently the top priority.
