Prokhorov General Physics Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Dianov Fiber Optics Research Center, ul. Vavilova 38, Moscow, 119991, Russian Federation

A scientific session of the Physical Sciences Division of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) dedicated to the ninetieth birthday of Academician Aleksandr Mikhailovich Prokhorov was held in the Conference Hall of the P N Lebedev Physics Institute, RAS on 25 October 2006. The following reports were presented at the session:
(1) Dianov E M (Fiber Optics Research Center, RAS, Moscow). ’A M Prokhorov and quantum electronics’’;
(2) Karlov N V, Konov V I, Osiko V V, Shcherbakov I A (A M Prokhorov General Physics Institute, RAS, Moscow). ’A M Prokhorov: founder of the General Physics Institute’.
