Magnetic effects induced by sp impurities and defects in nonmagnetic sp materials

Institute of Solid State Chemistry, Urals Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, ul. Pervomayskaya 91, Ekaterinburg, 620219, Russian Federation

This paper is a review of the state-of-the-art research concerning the first-principle simulation, synthesis, properties, and application prospects of a new class of magnetic materials obtained by doping nonmagnetic sp compounds (oxides, chalcogenides, and borides of nontransition sp elements) or nanostructures (carbon, BN, AlN, and MgO nanotubes) with nonmagnetic sp impurities or nanostructures involving structural vacancies or topological defects.
