The interaction energy of electric multipoles in a plane and a point-multipole approximation for the electric field of conductors

A complex representation of the electric potential is applied to derive relationships describing the interaction energy of electric multipoles in a plane, which prove to be highly useful for variational calculations of the electric field in a system of parallel circular conductors.
