Vacuum theory: a possible solution to the singularity problem of cosmology

Russian Federal Nuclear Center - All-Russian Research Institute of Experimental Physics, prosp. Mira 37, Sarov, Nizhny Novgorod region, 607188, Russian Federation

The present state of the question of the vacuum energy, cosmological constant, and vacuum polarization in a curved non-Euclidean space-time, i.e., in a gravitational field, is discussed. A cosmological model of the early Universe that is a self-consistent solution of the Einstein equations with vacuum polarization on the righthand side has many attractive features.
