The current status of the problem of parity violation in the nuclear interactions is reviewed. Special attention is given to the experimental studies in which parity violation was first detected in nuclear electromagnetic transitions. The methodological achievements that made it possible to detect this phenomenon are described. A compendium of a large number of experiments is given. In concluding, the experimental results are compared with theoretical predictions, and directions are indicated in which further research is desirable.
