В настоящем обзоре, подготовленном по случаю 20-летия первого наблюдения топ-кварка, эта самая тяжёлая из всех известных частиц рассматривается во многих аспектах, начиная с истории предсказания её существования, поисков и открытия и кончая современными представлениями о механизмах её образования и свойствах. Обсуждается также центральная роль топ-кварка в Стандартной модели и возможности, которые он открывает для поиска "новой физики" за пределами Стандартной модели.
